The buzz surrounding IPL 2025 was dealt a significant blow after what was billed as one of the most anticipated matchups – Delhi Capitals vs Punjab Kings – was suddenly abandoned. The match in Dharamsala was canceled after the increasing tensions between India and Pakistan raised serious security issues.
Evacuation of Players and Staff
Players from both franchises were immediately removed from Dharamsala and transferred to safer locations, as a precaution. The BCCI and IPL engaged with local security and intelligence agencies to guarantee the safety of on-duty personnel. Sources said team buses were moved away with security detail, and no player or team members were harmed.
While this appears to be an extreme measure, officials emphasized that safety is most important for not only players, staff, and fans, especially during a period of national uncertainty. “We can’t take chances,” an IPL source said. “The situation called for decisive action.”

BCCI’s Stance and Future Course
The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) put out an official statement saying that the cancellation was done, “in order to protect our national interest and obviously with an extreme amount of regret.” They are now considering whether to reschedule or nullify the match, depending on the time remaining in the tournament
