Manmohan Singh is an Indian economist born on 26th of September in 1932 in Gah, West Punjab, which is now in Pakistan. His family shifted to India after the partition in the year 1947. He passed his bachelor’s degree in economic from Panjab University and master in the same field from Panjab University. He then went for masters and PhD in Economics in the University of Oxford and a Doctor of Science in the University of Cambridge.

Career Highlights

Singh started his career teaching as a lecturer for the Panjab University and the University of Delhi. He began his career in the Reserve Bank of India; he worked as Chief Economic Advisor in 1971, and Deputy Governor in 1976.He had also served the Narasimha Rao government in the early 1990s as the Finance Minister and the key architect of economic liberalization of the Indian Economy.

Prime Ministership

Singh assumed office as the ‘13th’ Prime Minister of India in 2004 and in a continuous manner for two consecutive mandates until he was succeeded in 2014 by a new leader of the Indian National Congress party.
