On World Health Day 2025, Dr. Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, has identified three major public health priorities for the stateāsubstance abuse, HIV/AIDS and child marriage. Speaking as part of the global health consciousness day, Dr. Saha stressed that social determinants should take precedence in the overall health agenda, at least as much as health system strengthening. His focus connects, in theme, to the phrase of global health day this year, “My Health, My Right,” which is closely connected to health equity and access for all.
Drug Abuse and HIV/AIDS: A Growing Threat
Addiction to drugs is a major concern in Tripura, especially for young people. The CM noted the risk of increasing drug use which includes unsafe behaviors and increased HIV/Aids rate. He emphasized the need for an increased awareness campaign, more rehabilitation centres and establishing community support at the local level. Addressing the stigma of HIV and access to testing and treatment are also important for the success of any action taken.

Ending Child Marriage for a Healthier Future
Another significant worry mentioned by Dr. Saha was the continuation of child marriage in rural areas. This negative phenomenon harms both the mental and physical health of young girls while limiting their educational and economic opportunities. The Chief Minister emphasized that strong law enforcement, public awareness, and community programs were foundational to ending child marriage and empowering young girls.click here for source
