Stake by the Opposition Parties
Chennai, which is always so filled with debates and discussions, politics, technology or culture, has seen the irate public and protests against a sexual assault in which one of the culprits was a student from Anna University. That the crisis has not only embarrassed the university but the whole city has contributed to the uniting of the opposition parties. Their goal? In order that justice is done & that every effort is made to guard against a repetition such happenings in the future.
Tirunelveli – Dr. Jayakumar and Tamilisai arrested
As if on cue, senior Congress leader Dr. Jayakumar and Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan were arrested during their protest. Each of them had convened the congregation at the university to protest the wanton incident as well as to rally support for safety and security on the compound. Despite their detention both of them have not ceased to show how concerned and angry they are.
NO to Violence Against Women and Girls
As soon as the details of the assault circulated, students and faculty as well as the residents stormed into the streets taking their anger into consideration. The social media was filled with such tags as #JusticeForAnnaUniversityStudent and #EndSexualAssault, and people cut across all the poles of the societies showed their sympathetic with the victim.
A Struggle for Accountability
Members of the opposition and demonstrators demanded that law enforcement agencies quickly catch and punish the perpetrators of the tragedy, as well as conduct a thorough examination of security measures on university territory throughout the state.
