Hyundai revealed its all-electric flagship three-row SUV under its new nameplate, Ioniq 9. The company unveiled the Ioniq 9 globally in November 2024 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The Ioniq 9 is the company’s flagship electric vehicle product. Hyundai has scheduled the official launch of the Ioniq 9 in South Korea and the United States for early 2025. It will further enter European markets as well as other markets.
Innovative Design Based on the E-GMP Platform
The Ioniq 9 utilizes Hyundai’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This platform underpins other popular models, such as the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. The E-GMP platform also supports the Kia EV9, introduced in India last year. The Ioniq 9 incorporates Hyundai’s signature design elements, including parametric pixel LED headlights, taillights, and a sculpted lower fascia.
The SUV has dimensions of 5,060 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, which gives the interior ample space. These dimensions make the Ioniq 9 slightly larger than its Kia EV9 counterpart.
Hyundai fitted the Ioniq 9 with a 110.3 kWh (net) battery pack, and thus it was an excellent performer as well as delivering an excellent range. There are three drivetrain options for the customers to select from:
RWD Long Range
Single motor with 215 bhp and 350 Nm torque.
AWD Long Range
Two motors: one at the front generating 93 bhp and another at the rear with 215 bhp.

The Ioniq 9 will come with a six and seven-seater arrangement to better cater to family needs and smaller groups. Advanced comfort solutions find a home within the cabin in a typical Hyundai design style. Interior Highlights:
- A headroom space of up to 1,899 mm as well as 2,050 mm of legroom in the second and third row.
Massage functions for first and second row seats. - Swiveling second-row seats that can face the third row when stationary.
The four-spoke steering wheel design draws inspiration from Hyundai’s Santa Fe. Additionally, the cabin incorporates a panoramic curved display combining a 12-inch digital instrument cluster with a 12-inch infotainment system.
Advanced Technology and Safety Features
Hyundai Ioniq 9 focused strongly on safety and technology. The sound equipment installed is a standard eight-speaker system coupled with e-Active Sound Design (e-ASD) for a simulated EV sound. Safety features include:
- 10 airbags for overall protection.
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to make driving safer.
- Pretensioners for seatbelts and all other vital systems to make the passenger safer.
Competitive Pricing and Market Positioning
While its launching in India is still in pending, its approximated price would be near ₹1 crore. Its pricing is slightly below that of the Kia EV9 at ₹1.3 crore (ex-showroom). Hyundai would achieve much of the focus in the luxury electric SUV market with its premium features and competitive pricing.
