On 10 November 2025, a powerful explosion occurred close to the globally renowned Red Fort in Delhi. It took at least eight lives and left more than twenty individuals injured, according to preliminary police reports. The blast took place near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, outside what is usually a busy spot in Old Delhi that is often heavily populated with commuters, visitors, and tourists.
Authorities indicated that the explosion originated from a slow-moving vehicle that reportedly caught fire while stopped at the traffic signal before it erupted. The explosion created a blast radius that impacted near by vehicles, sent people into a panic in the historic district associated with India’s independence and national pride, and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Authorities Launch High-Level Investigation
Forensic experts and police quickly secured the site and initiated a full-scale investigation. Delhi’s Commissioner of Police noted that “no possibility is being ruled out” while experts analyzed whether the explosion was due to a CNG cylinder issue or something intentional. The National Security Guard (NSG) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) were called in to assist with the investigation, including reviewing CCTV footage and debris samples. Increased security has been ordered throughout the capital, and the alert has been spread to airports and government facilities.
Public Response and Security Measure
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his condolences and requested peace, as authorities increased their watch around important landmarks. Tourists and residents were told to avoid the Red Fort area until further notice.
