The Life of a Legend
He was born into a musical family and more importantly, his father was the late great tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha. Zakir grew up content but proving himself as a genius in his field and hardworking since childhood. Thus, complex rhythms and impressive ability to solve more complicated improvisations make him one of the most well-known and respected percussionists of the present days.
Zakir Hussain was not only confined to his music career in Indian classical music only. He had worked with world-class musicians and infusing tabla into jazz, fusion western classical and world music. His endeavors of addressing different cultures through music made him to be famous all over the world and get several honors from Indian government such as Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
