Nepal faced a devastating landslide early this morning. The landslide swept two buses carrying 63 people into the Trishuli River. The Madan-Ashrit Highway saw heavy rainfall, which triggered the disaster. The buses involved were the Kathmandu-bound Angel bus and Ganpati Deluxe. The incident occurred around 3:30 am.

Local authorities quickly responded to the tragedy. Indradev Yadav, the Chief District Officer of Chitwan, confirmed the details. “Both buses carried a total of 63 people, including the drivers. The landslide struck around 3:30 am, pushing the buses into the river. Incessant rain hampers our search efforts,” Yadav stated.
Government Action
Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, ordered all government agencies to prioritize search and rescue operations. He expressed his deep sadness over the incident. “I am deeply saddened by the reports of about five dozen passengers missing after the buses were washed away by a landslide. I direct all government agencies to search and effectively rescue the passengers,” Dahal posted on X.
Search and Rescue Efforts
The Nepali Army quickly mobilized for search and rescue operations. They shared a video of their efforts. The heavy rain continues to pose challenges, making the search more difficult. Despite the harsh conditions, rescuers remain determined.
Impact on Transportation

The Home Ministry officials reported 90 others injured. Landslides claimed 34 lives, while floods caused by incessant rains claimed 28 lives. Seven individuals remain missing.

The heavy rains have caused significant property damage. At least 121 houses have been inundated, and 82 others have been damaged. These natural disasters have displaced 1,058 households across the country. The community faces the dual challenge of mourning their losses and rebuilding their lives.
