Pager attacks: Qatar Airways bars passengers from carrying walkie-talkies on Lebanon flights due to explosion
Qatar Airways has forbidden passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies on their Beirut flights following the deadly explosion caused by a walkie-talkie in Lebanon. The flight bans are expected to last until further notice while rescue operations are still on the way.

Qatar Airways has banned all travelers traveling from Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY) from taking pagers and walkie-talkies on its flights, the airlines reported yesterday, September 19, 2024.
According to its post, the airlines said that the rules will remain in place until further notice on the airlines’ official social media account in X. “Effective immediately: As per a directive from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Republic of Lebanon, pagers and walkie-talkies are prohibited on all flights traveling out of Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY), until further notice. Checked and carry-on bags and cargo, are affected and will not be allowed in all cabins until further notice,” Qatar Airways said on X.

This after several walkie-talkies and pagers exploded in Lebanon. Al Jazeera reported that at least 20 people were killed, while more than 450 were injured following the blasts.

An official from the Israel Defense Forces says that the government has started targeted strikes at Hezbollah’s terrorist capabilities and infrastructure in Lebanon. The operation aims to boost security along the northern Israeli border so residents can go back home while achieving their strategic objectives.

The IDF targets Hezbollah in Lebanon to neutralize their terror abilities. Hezbollah’s use of residential areas and civilians as shields creates conflict. Restoring northern Israel’s security is the campaign’s goal.”

However, according to Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, the country has entered a “new phase” of the war, which he said will take into the north.

We are entering a new phase of the war—allocating resources and forces to the northern arena. Our mission is clear: to ensure the safe return of communities in northern Israel to their homes. To this end, we must change the security situation.” Several Lebanese Red Cross ambulance crews undertook rescue missions and evacuated persons injured by walkie-talkie explosions in September (specific date 18, 2024).
