Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT : Two luxury electric models by Porsche and Audi recently announced a recall in India. This recall has been issued because of possible fire hazards in these cars, caused by some faulty battery modules. As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), this is a total of 207 units, of which 176 are Taycans by Porsche and 31 are E-Tron GTs by Audi.
The recall involves Porsche Taycan units produced between October 21, 2019, and March 4, 2024. The root cause of the problem lies in battery cell irregularities during supplier production. This can result in short circuits within the battery modules, which increases the chances of thermal events. The vehicles involved could experience a dangerous fire outbreak in these situations.
Porsche Taycan and Audi E-Tron GT :Introduction to the Recall
To ensure customer safety, Porsche started the recall in November 2024. Official details from the brand are still scarce, but industry sources confirm that the main objective is to inspect and repair defective battery components. This preventive measure reflects Porsche’s efforts to maintain high safety standards in its premium electric lineup.
Similarly, Audi recalled its E-Tron GT and RS E-Tron GT models made between January 1, 2020, and February 16, 2024. Technical anomalies in some battery modules led to the recall. These modules could catch fire as a result of faulty cell components, which would cause a great fire hazard.

Significantly, Audi had recalled 37 units of its E-Tron models in September 2024 due to the possibility of brake hose defects. This was preceded by similar recalls related to the battery in March 2024. This repeat incident shows that the automaker still has quality control issues despite its reputation for precision engineering.
What Owners Need to Know
The impacted models are those from the luxury electric segment that is built on the premium J1 platform. In India, the ex-showroom price starts at ₹1.89 crore for the Taycan, ₹1.72 crore for the Audi E-Tron GT, and ₹1.95 crore for the RS E-Tron GT. With such hefty price tags, safety becomes an even more important feature in these vehicles.
The parent company Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited has accepted responsibility for this issue. Affected owners will be contacted directly by authorized dealerships to arrange for free inspections and repairs, if required.

Industry Implications
This recall highlights the complexities of EV production. Since EVs are highly dependent on advanced battery technology, minor defects could lead to major safety issues. Automakers across the world still try to balance innovation with reliability in electric models.

This incident also leaves many in question over supplier quality control. Because Porsche and Audi rely on third-party suppliers for battery components, more significant oversight could prevent such a recurrence.
Conclusion: A Lesson in EV Reliability
While recalls may seem like setbacks, they demonstrate the automakers’ dedication to customer safety. By addressing potential hazards proactively, Porsche and Audi reinforce trust among their customer base. Moving forward, EV manufacturers must refine quality control processes to ensure top-tier performance and safety.
