NES Conference 2025: Steering Naval Education into the NEP Era

NES Conference 2025

The 2025 Navy Education Society (NES) Conference was held at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam and took place between November 10 – 13. It was the 2025 NES Conference’s first gathering of the top-ranking Navy’s Officers, Academia & Administration in India. At this year’s conference, one topic resonated louder than all others, and that was the effect that NEP-2020 would have on the future of the Education Community. NES came together to consider how the Naval Schools could be redefined, restructured and continue to provide an even greater benefit to the children of Naval Personal in a transformed educational environment.

Key Deliberations: Committees, Case Studies, and Inclusive Focus

“We will be hosting your Fourth Annual Conference from November 9th-12th in 2023. This conference will serve as a platform for NES members to share experiences and learn from one another.

The first two days will focus on specific committee discussions with the Executive Committee (EC) meeting chaired by the Controller Personnel Services-Vice Admiral CR Praveen Nair, the second meeting focused on Academic Committee (MAC) meeting and chaired by Commodore SM Urooj Athar as the Vice Chairperson of NES and lastly answering questions from the MAC and EC to academic leaders of all naval schools.” Case study presentations will reveal each delegation’s unique experiences, sharing their challenges faced during implementation with toolkits provided through NES resources followed by the sharing of operational aspects related to each institution in addition to establishing a foundation for active learning between each of the institutions.

Charting a New Vision: Standardisation, NEP-2020 Alignment, and Infrastructure Push

During his keynote, Vice Admiral Nair spoke about a revamped plan for both NES and the Naval Schools. He stated that all Naval Schools must standardise their approaches so all schools provide students with similar and student-centric inclusive educational experiences.

The vision points of the future are the following:

  • NEP-2020 Alignment. With the implementation of NEP-2020, NES has been redefining academic and administrative operations to better align with this national policy to address the demand for modern and holistic education.
  • Revised Vision and Mission statements. The society has published revised Vision and Mission statements that align with national educational responsibilities, and which will focus on providing an environment that fosters value-based education, all-around growth, and prepares students for future success.
  • Building Facility/Faculty Development. NES will continue to build its school facilities by increasing the upgrade of their school facilities, enhance teacher training, and introduce standardised procedures. This will allow NES to develop Naval Schools as models of academic excellence.

Celebrations, Recognition & Road Ahead

Recognition of Academic Excellence, as NES has also done, was evident through the presentation of the 2024-25 NES Academic Awards to showcase and promote the excellent academic record of all Naval Schools across India. As part of the programme, delegates had a guided visit to the Naval Children Schools (NCS) in and around Visakhapatnam to view the latest facilities and improvements. The addition of Sankalp School opens additional avenues of discussion about the inclusion of non-traditional learning methods and ways to support special needs within the Naval Community. This indicates that NES is moving away from the traditional school model towards a much broader scope of inclusion within the education system.

Conclusion

The NES Conference 2025 has been transformative for the future of all Naval Schools throughout India by offering an innovative approach to using NEP-2020 as the framework for increased access and equity in education. As the evolution of NES pushes towards greater inclusivity and a common set of standards, there is an opportunity for a long-term infrastructure investment in upgrading facilities and teacher professional development.

These investments will result in a best-practice standard that will enable all structures and systems used at Naval Schools to be benchmarked against these standards. The addition of Sankalp Schools through NES demonstrates an understanding that all learners should have access to a quality educational experience, no matter what their individual abilities may be.

With the ongoing development and implementation of NES’s Vision and Mission, all naval personnel’s children can count on being part of an educational system that is geared toward building a more inclusive, dynamic, and future-oriented educational environment that nurtures competence, confidence, and character in equal measure. click here for the source
