Microsoft Launches Real-Time Translation: Microsoft has rolled out a game-changing real-time translation feature for Live Captions on Copilot+ PCs, running on AMD and Intel processors. This upgrade, offered via the newest Windows 11 Insider preview build, translates audio from more than 44 languages into English, thereby providing fluid accessibility to video calls, recordings, and streamed content.

The new real-time translation functionality combines perfectly with Live Captions. Users can now: translate audio content from more than 44 languages directly into the user’s native language display the translation as a subtitle at the bottom of the screen use AI models, including Microsoft’s Copilot and large language models, to provide precise translations.

This feature supports wide-ranging use cases such as video calls, live streams, as well as multimedia content, allowing it to be used not only for personal but for professional use cases as well.

Language Support and Dependencies

The feature currently has strong support in the following:

-Translation from several languages into English.
-Snapdragon chip-based devices have additional translation support in Chinese (Simplified).

However, translations from English to other languages are not available. A user needs to have his/her device language set to English in order to be able to use this feature.

The functionality is supported on Arabic, German, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and other languages ensuring maximum possible accessibility.

Updates for Snapdragon-Powered Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft has extended enhancements to its Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, broadening the translation feature’s scope. These devices now support translation to Chinese (Simplified) alongside other improvements, offering users an enriched experience.

The real-time translation feature is currently available to Windows Insider users in the Dev Channel running the Windows 11 Insider build 26120.2705 (KB5050636). Users can test the feature and provide feedback to Microsoft for further refinement.
