Key Safety Updates
The biggest improvement in the Alto K10 is the addition of six airbags in all versions. It becomes the cheapest car in India to feature such an advanced safety technology. In addition to airbags, Maruti Suzuki has also added other safety features, including:
- Three-Point Seatbelt for Middle Rear Passenger: Previously, the rear middle passenger had only a lap belt. The new model now provides increased safety to all passengers.
- Luggage Retention Crossbar: This is an added safety feature that keeps luggage from moving towards rear passengers during sudden stops or crashes.

These features go along with the government’s efforts towards imposing tougher safety standards on passenger vehicles.
No Mechanical Upgrades in the New Model
Though the safety aspects have been upgraded, the Alto K10 is still mechanically unchanged. It is still powered by the 1.0-liter, three-cylinder K10 petrol engine, which offers a perfect balance of power and efficiency.
- Transmission Options: The hatchback still has its manual and AMT (automatic manual transmission) options.
- CNG Variant Available: Maruti also offers a factory-fitted CNG kit, catering to customers who prefer cost-effective fuel alternatives.
Why This Update Matters
The introduction of six airbags in an entry-level car reflects Maruti Suzuki’s focus on safety, a factor that has gained more importance in recent years. As safety regulations tighten, automakers are equipping even budget-friendly models with advanced features.
For consumers, this translates to improved safety without the need to shell out for costly vehicles. Even with the price increase, the Alto K10 is still one of the cheapest and most sensible choices for Indian consumers looking for a dependable and fuel-efficient hatchback with contemporary safety features.
Final Thoughts
Maruti Suzuki’s decision to equip the Alto K10 with six airbags sets a new benchmark in the entry-level car segment. While the price increase may concern some buyers, the added safety features justify the cost. With strong fuel efficiency, an improved safety package, and multiple transmission options, the Alto K10 continues to be a compelling choice for budget-conscious car buyers in India.
