Lexus LX 700h Debuts With Hybrid Powertrain

Lexus LX 700h

Lexus has unveiled the updated 2025 LX 700h, introducing a hybrid powertrain option for the first time. The flagship SUV now features significant upgrades across its entire lineup, with new tech, improved features, and the off-road-focused “Overtrail” Edition.

A First for Lexus: Hybrid Powertrain in the LX 700h

The LX 700h’s introduction marks a milestone for Lexus, as the luxury SUV is now available with an electrified powertrain. This variant joins the existing petrol and diesel options, providing customers with more versatility in their choice of propulsion. The hybrid powertrain pairs a twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine with an electric motor positioned between the engine and the transmission. Together, they produce a combined output of 457 bhp and 790 Nm of torque. The power is transmitted to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission, maintaining the same transmission as the non-hybrid versions.

Advanced Hybrid Features for Enhanced Reliability

The hybrid system incorporates both an alternator and a starter motor, which ensures that the LX 700h can function even if the hybrid system encounters issues. The starter motor allows the engine to operate independently, while the alternator charges the 12-volt auxiliary battery. The high-voltage battery is housed under the cargo area, along with the relocated 12V auxiliary battery, both placed in a waterproof tray with a water sensor. This setup enables the LX 700h to wade through water up to 700 mm deep.

The Overtrail Edition: Off-Road Capability Meets Luxury

The Overtrail Edition caters to off-road enthusiasts with exclusive features and styling. It adopts the rugged traits found in Lexus’ smaller NX and GX models. Inside, the Overtrail Edition sports monolith-style upholstery complemented by ash burl black trim. For tackling tough terrains, it comes with front and rear differential locks, in addition to the standard center differential lock.

Launch and Availability

The updated Lexus LX 700h and its variants will roll out in phases across various regions, starting in late 2024. Lexus initially introduced the LX series in India in 2022 with the LX 500d model, priced from ₹2.82 crore to ₹2.84 crore (ex-showroom). The 2025 updates now bring more premium features and diverse powertrain choices, offering customers an enhanced luxury SUV experience.
