Hitting out at his predecessor and YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy on Sunday over the ongoing row on Tirupati Balaji prasadam laddoos being prepared, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said that Reddy is shamelessly trying to justify his crime. The Andhra CM also ordered a high-level committee probe into the matter.
Addressing reporters in Vijayawada, Naidu accused several procedures in acquiring ghee by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) during the YSRCP government regime.
“Jagan is shamelessly trying to justify his crime. Regarding the false positive factor mentioned in the report, Jagan has given a lengthy explanation and concluded that the tests conducted by scientists and labs are false. He is making these baseless, unfounded statements sitting at home,” the chief minister said.
According to Naidu, at a point in the previous government, appointments to the TTD board turned out to be more or less like “gambling” where the managements there chose people who had no faith, gave preferences to non-Hindus on the board.
He said that as per the earlier conditions, the ghee supplier should have at least three years of experience. However after Reddy came to power, it was reduced to one year. The CM mentioned reducing supplier turnover to Rs 150 crore and questioned the feasibility of selling pure ghee at Rs 319 compared to pricier palm oil.
He said referring to the letter written by Reddy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi he said the YSRCP chief was trying to counterattack by shooting off letters. He said that Reddy claimed that all the tests and due procedures were followed while procuring the ghee.”.
“TTD does not have the labs that can conduct tests to check for adulteration. How does he claim all this? TTD just conducts simple tests. Only NABL labs are qualified to conduct adulteration tests. Without TTD having the infrastructure, how does he claim that all thorough tests were conducted?” he said.
Naidu criticized Reddy for accusing him of using god for political gain and insulting Lord Venkateshwara Swamy. Reddy claimed Naidu diverted attention from Andhra Pradesh governance by alleging ghee adulteration in Tirupati prasadam laddoos. What a nonsense he Jagan Mohan Reddy is talking. Not even 100 days we have in govt. You tell the policies, criticize my policy, and I’ll answer what you have done, what I have done.
But, you wanted to divert, but if you do so, more and more sentiments will hurt. I am taking three angles, first- purification, according to traditions. I am ordering an inquiry at the IGP level. Only those who have beliefs will be there in the management committee. Finally, we shall draft SOP for all the temples, Naidu further said.
Earlier today, Reddy sought PM Modi’s intervention in laddu adulteration at Tirupati, urging for CM Naidu to be reprimanded. Reddy accused Naidu of being a “habitual liar” who is willing to hurt the beliefs of people for political gain.
A strong procurement process had been there since decades, which was followed during the TDP (Telugu Desam Party) government for five years, from 2014 to 2019, he said.
He questioned as to why Naidu was bringing it to the fore now if the adulterated samples were identified two months ago, and the report was also issued in that interim. “I request the PM to rebuke Naidu in the sternest words to spew lies,” Jagan wrote in his letter to the prime minister.
He listed the process undertaken at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams-the board which manages the Sri Venkateswara Swamy at Tirumala-for acceptance of ghee. “Naidu’s deeds diminished not only the dignity of CM but that of every individual in public life, the sanctity of the board and its practices,” he said.
