Apple will launch its thinnest smartphone with the iPhone 17 Air. A recent leak shows that the phone may be only 5.5mm thick. If true, it will be thinner than Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which is rumored to be coming out next month. The iPhone 17 Air could also inherit the length and width of the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
iPhone 17 Air Size and Screen Size
It will be the same in height and width as the iPhone 17 Pro Max, says a tipster. That is to say the phone will have a height of 163mm and a width of 77.6mm. If it happens, then it will have a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display, which will be 0.2mm bigger than that of the iPhone 16 Plus. Also, the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro Max could have the same thin display bezels as the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
Thin Chassis With a Single Rear Camera
Unlike Apple’s Pro models, which usually have multiple rear cameras, it could have just one. Apple will prioritize making the phone extremely thin instead of having additional camera hardware, according to the tipster. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, will be 8.7mm thick and have three rear cameras.
Apple’s Selection of Materials for the iPhone 17 Series
Reports suggest Apple will employ an aluminum frame on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple first made a change from stainless steel to titanium for its Pro models with the iPhone 15 Pro. However, it may take a different route by having a titanium frame.

Battery Size and SIM Slot Changes
In order to keep its skinny design, it could feature a smaller battery than Apple’s normal models. According to another report, Apple will also ditch the physical SIM card slot in the iPhone 17 Air. In its place, the company could emphasize eSIM technology, which it has already done for many markets.
The War of Skinny Smartphones
Both Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone 17 Air are trying to provide ultra-thin builds. Apple seems to emphasize sleekness and lightness, but Samsung may prioritize battery performance against thin design. With both smartphones near their official release, additional information should become available in the coming months.
