Indian Government Expands Aadhaar Authentication: The Indian government expanded the Aadhaar authentication service. Both public and private organizations will be able to access it for verification. How to Apply to Obtain Access for Aadhaar Authentication
To have access to the Aadhaar authentication services, approved entities must send an application either to the Ministry or Department under the Central and State Governments of the concerned authorities. The request must contain relevant information about intended use of the Aadhaar authentication.
UIDAI will scrutinize each application. After getting approval from UIDAI, MeitY will then provide final consent. This makes sure that authentication of Aadhaar can only be done by permitted bodies and has proper security as well as privacy measures.
Such amendment reverses the restrictions imposed in 2020, limiting Aadhaar authentication access only to government agencies. The Supreme Court had ruled against private companies using Aadhaar data because it posed a threat to privacy concerns.
