BYD unveiled the Atto 2, a compact all-electric SUV, at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show. The Atto 2 represents the brand’s latest offering for the European market. Smaller in size compared to the Atto 3 SUV, it targets urban and suburban commuters seeking a versatile EV. BYD will launch the Atto 2 next month, with a single battery pack and powertrain option. The design, features, and performance of the EV make it a strong competitor to the Suzuki e-Vitara.
A Rebadged Version of the Yuan Up
BYD designed the Atto 2 as a rebadged version of its Yuan Up model for Europe. The Yuan Up, launched in early 2024, has gained popularity in markets like China, Brazil, and Colombia. In select regions, BYD markets the vehicle under different names, including Yuan Pro and S1 Pro. The Atto 2 brings the same core design and performance to European buyers while adapting to local market preferences.
Sleek design and balanced dimensions
Atto 2 combines practicality with modern elements of design. In terms of measurement, it’s 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, and 1,675 mm in height, positioning the SUV aptly within the compact segment. Its dimensions equal some popular ones like Hyundai Creta EV or Suzuki e-Vitara.
The vehicle has an understated yet clean exterior design. At the front, traditional LED headlamps are integrated into a black sash element. Its upright stance, flat roofline, and short overhangs give it a robust stance. Subtle cladding around the wheel arches and lower body enhance durability while a connected tail lamp setup gives it a sophistication touch.
Advanced Interior Features for Comfort and Convenience
Inside the Atto 2, BYD emphasizes innovation and user experience. A rotating 15.6-inch touchscreen acts as the focal point for the dashboard, providing features incorporated from other BYD models. The digital instrument cluster comes with fundamental driving information while the head-up display is provided to enhance safety by keeping drivers ahead of the road.
The wireless charger and Level 1 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) make the vehicle more convenient and safe. BYD’s design of the interior provides a perfect balance between practicality and luxury, appealing to the demands of contemporary drivers.
Efficient Powertrain and Promising Range
BYD will launch its Atto 2 in Europe with a 45 kWh battery pack. This range should be around 312 km on a single charge, thus ideal for everyday commutes and short trips. The battery propels a 175 bhp electric motor mounted at the front axle, guaranteeing responsive handling.
BYD will bring in a long-range variant soon, which will tip the equation to make the Atto 2 look even better. This way, the company can target a more diverse set of buyers with different driving requirements.
Possibility of Launching in the Indian Market
Although BYD has not confirmed the launch of the Atto 2 in India, the compact design and competitive pricing of the vehicle make it a strong contender. The growing demand for electric vehicles in India may influence BYD to introduce the Atto 2 to Indian buyers. The company is currently focusing on the Sealion 7, which is scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of 2025.
A Compact EV for Modern Lifestyles
The BYD Atto 2 is a promising compact EV with practicality, advanced features, and efficient performance. Its sleek design and innovative interior features reflect BYD’s commitment to providing value and modernity. With its European launch set for next month, the Atto 2 is poised to make a significant impact in the growing compact EV segment.
