2025 Volvo XC90 Facelift : Volvo Cars India will launch the updated XC90 in March 2025. The luxury SUV was launched globally in September 2024 and features major updates. This is the second major update for the second-generation XC90 since its introduction in 2014. In the global markets, the new XC90 comes with both mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. However, in India, it is expected to be sold with the mild-hybrid powertrain initially.
Powertrain and Performance
Volvo has retained the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology. This engine is good for 251 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. There is an automatic transmission, too, so shifting gears will never be a concern. The AWD system enhances traction and control on different kinds of terrain. The mild-hybrid version of the SUV will take 7.7 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 kmph.
For global markets, Volvo also offers a plug-in hybrid variant with the same 2.0-liter engine, an 18.8 kWh battery pack, and an electric motor. This version delivers a total driving range of approximately 800 km, with an EV-only range of 70 km. However, Volvo has not confirmed whether this variant will be available in India.
Advanced Suspension and Handling
The 2025 XC90 facelift benefits from Volvo’s Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) technology. This system enhances ride comfort by adjusting each damper according to road conditions. With improved suspension tuning, the SUV promises a smoother and more controlled driving experience.

Exterior Enhancements
The redesign gives the facelifted XC90 a more contemporary look, which is close to Volvo’s completely electric EX90. Instead of a completely closed-off panel, it has an active front grille with a reworked pattern. The front bumper looks slimmer and more comprehensive. Chrome caps are used minimally, thus making the SUV look even cleaner.
The iconic Thor’s Hammer LED daytime running lights continue to define the front fascia. On the side, the profile remains mostly unchanged, but the SUV now sports a new alloy wheel design. At the rear, Volvo has introduced a split-style vertical taillight signature, enhancing the XC90’s premium appeal.
Interior and Technology Updates
Inside, the XC90 retains its familiar cabin layout but introduces several refinements. A larger touchscreen infotainment system now protrudes from the dashboard rather than being embedded within it. This setup enhances visibility and accessibility for the driver.

Volvo has improved interior ergonomics by optimizing storage space. The center console now includes additional compartments, along with an extra cupholder. The wireless phone charger has also been repositioned behind the central tunnel, separating it from the main storage area.
The cabin is defined by premium materials and high-quality craftsmanship. The XC90 facelift also comes with an optional Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system, which offers an immersive sound experience.
Safety and Driver Assistance Features
Volvo continues to prioritize safety with the updated XC90. The SUV comes equipped with an array of advanced driver assistance systems. Features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring enhance driving confidence. The model also includes collision mitigation technology, ensuring greater protection for occupants and pedestrians.
Expected Pricing and Competition
Volvo has not yet disclosed the official pricing for the 2025 XC90 facelift in India. However, the outgoing model falls within the ₹1 crore price bracket. The facelifted version is expected to carry a slight premium over the current pricing.
In the Indian market, the XC90 competes with other luxury SUVs, including the Audi Q7, BMW X7, and Mercedes-Benz GLE. With its latest updates, the Volvo XC90 aims to strengthen its position in the premium SUV segment.
The new 2025 Volvo XC90 facelift comes with a fresh design, enhanced technology, and improved driving dynamics. However, the global model will be available in several powertrain options, and in India, only the mild-hybrid variant will be available at launch. Luxury, safety, and performance – the updated XC90 continues to be a strong contender in the premium SUV space.
