What is scheduled for PM Modi?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his three-day visit by taking part in the Quad Leaders’ Summit in Wilmington, Delaware in US President Joe Biden’s hometown. The MEA explained that the leaders at the summit will review the progress made by the group during the past year and chalk out the agenda for the next year to help the countries of the Indo-Pacific region achieve their development objectives and aspirations.

Almost immediately after the Summit, Modi will hold bilateral meets with other leaders of this group – Biden and Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japan’s Premier Fumio Kishida.

On September 22, Modi will reach New York for interaction with the Indian diaspora in Long Island. He will also be interacting with chief executives of the leading US-based companies for greater collaborations between the two nations in the cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology, as stated by the MEA.
He will also interact with the thought leaders and other stakeholders engaged actively in the India-US bilateral landscape.

On the last day of his visit to the US, the prime minister will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The theme of this summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’.

Quad Leaders’ Summit – what are the key topics to be discussed?
The Quad comprises four countries: India, Australia, Japan, and the United States. All of these countries are committed to working as a force for good and will actively contribute towards fostering a prosperous, secure, open, free, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

Confronting global problems such as the Russian Ukraine conflict, tensions in West Asia, and the situation in the Indo-Pacific would figure in the Quad Summit. The Summit has a positive agenda that includes three wide thematic areas: Work with partners to identify the development priorities of the Indo-Pacific. Implementation of the sustainable development goals and working on public goods.

The leaders will also kick off the Cancer Moonshot, a special initiative to prevent, detect, and treat cancer in the Indo-Pacific.

In that regard, the four leaders will take up new initiatives and commitments on some several sectors including investments and building capacities.

Misri said the two leaders will also have an opportunity for substantive engagement and review the comprehensive global strategic partnership between New Delhi and Washington at the bilateral meeting between Modi and Biden. The two sides are likely to unveil agreements on India joining two of the four pillars of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on an India-US drug framework.
