Tirupati temple laddus row: While YSRCP accused Chandrababu Naidu of indulging in “heinous allegations” and TDP circulated the lab report to back the claim.
The row between politics and BJP was as big as ever in Andhra Pradesh after the Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu claimed that animal fat used to be put into Tirupati temple laddus during the previous YSRCP government led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Amid the furore, the ruling Telugu Desam Party on Thursday said a Gujarat-based livestock laboratory has confirmed the adulteration. TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy at a press conference displayed what appeared to be the lab report which purportedly confirmed the presence of “beef tallow” in the ghee sample in question, news agency PTI reported.
On Wednesday, N Chandrababu Naidu had alleged that there was usage of “animal fat” instead of ghee in the laddus offered at Tirupati shrine.
10 updates on Tirupati laddus row:
While the YSRCP accused Chandrababu Naidu of indulging in “heinous allegations” for political gains and the TDP circulated the lab report to back the claim.
During a meeting of the legislative party of NDA on Wednesday, Naidu said that even the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirupati was not spared by the erstwhile YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government. It was allegedly used to prepare laddu using low-grade ingredients and animal fat.
TDP spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy said that a laboratory in Gujarat had confirmed the adulteration, based on samples of ghee from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), running the iconic Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple.
The report of the laboratory test further mentioned that “lard” (fatty product of pig) and fish oil were also present in the samples. The date of receipt of sample is July 9, 2024 and the date of the laboratory report is July 16.
However, no official word in this regard was received either from the Andhra Pradesh government or the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, which administers the world-famous temple of Sri Venkateswara Swamy, said PTI.
The laboratory CALF is a multidisciplinary analytical laboratory based at NDDB (National Dairy Development Board) at Anand in Gujarat. On Thursday, Chandrababu Naidu alleged that the erstwhile YSRCP government had desecrated Tirumala but added that the sanitisation process has already begun.
On the development, IT minister Nara Lokesh of Andhra Pradesh remarked, “The laboratory reports have clearly established that laddus were made with beef fat, fish oil, and lard.”.
The TDP ally Bharatiya Janata Party also demanded legal action. In an interview with ANI, BJP members expressed outrage over alleged contamination of sacred prasadam, calling it an attack on cultural heritage.
YSRCP leader YV Subba Reddy condemned Naidu’s allegations, saying they disrespected the deity and devotees by suggesting animal fat was used in sacred offerings and laddus.
