Rishabh Pant’s Fitness Issues Before Champions Trophy

Rishabh Pant's Fitness

Rishabh Pant’s Fitness: India’s wicketkeeper-batter superstar, Rishabh Pant, was spotted limping during practice in Dubai, which raised fears about his fitness before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Even though he dodged a severe injury after being hit on the knee during practice on Sunday, he looked awkward on Monday, missing wicketkeeping practice and struggling through his batting practice.

Pant Skips Wicketkeeping Practice

India’s second net session at the ICC Academy saw Pant skip fielding and wicketkeeping practice. It is reported that he appeared rusty with the bat, missing and edging a number of deliveries. This follows after a shot from Hardik Pandya hit Pant on the knee by mistake during the first practice session. Though he received instant medical attention, he went ahead to train on Sunday. But indications of discomfort on Monday have cast doubts on his match fitness.

KL Rahul’s Finishing Role in Focus

As Pant’s form and fitness come under scrutiny, KL Rahul is likely to be India’s main wicketkeeper in the Champions Trophy. Head coach Gautam Gambhir has already supported Rahul as India’s first-choice wicketkeeper, although his batting spot is still uncertain. Rahul trained extensively in Dubai, focusing on big-hitting to prepare for a finisher’s role at No. 5 or 6. Known for his technical approach, he worked on range-hitting, effortlessly clearing the ropes.

Top Order in Sublime Form

India’s top-order batters, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and skipper Rohit Sharma, were seen in good nick during the training session. They played classy strokes, indicating signs of being at their best as the important tournament approaches. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer also worked on power-hitting, providing a depth to India’s middle order.

India’s Champions Trophy Opener vs. Bangladesh

India will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against Bangladesh, and Pant’s fitness will be keenly watched in the days to come. If the discomfort continues, Rahul is set to assume wicketkeeping responsibilities, and the team management might make changes to the playing XI.
