New rumours suggest that OLED screens are heading to MacBooks and iPads as Apple starts planning new upgrades. Hearing from sources in the supply chain, Apple will launch the first MacBook Pro with OLED screen in 2022 and the MacBook Air in 2023. This is a shift in a major technological transition replacing the current Mini-LED panel with OLED technology.
MacBook Pro: The OLED Game Changer
The 2026 MacBook Pro will reportedly come in two sizes: 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch. These models will come with Hybrid OLED displays, which offer even blacks, bright colors, and ideal ratio of contrast. The upcoming MacBook Pro might not feature the display notch found in existing models. But there is not any information like it will have Apple’s Dynamic Island feature like in its iPhone 15.
MacBook Air: OLED Upgrade in 2027
In contrasting news, the MacBook Air, which might also belong to this line, will not get its OLED screen until 2027. They have predicted display sizes of 13.8 inches and 15.5 inches with Hybrid OLED options. But the MacBook Air will likely stick with the display notch, unlike the Pro models did. This update should provide a slightly higher level of screen quality while still keeping the Air seasonably skinny.

iPad Models that have OLED screens
While Apple’s OLED history could be traced back from the iPad Pro (2024) model using a Tandem OLED display. And by 2026, the iPad Air will bring up an 8.4-inch Hybrid OLED display supporting refresh rates of up to 60Hz. Worthy of its name, the standard iPad models will be 11-inches and 13-inches similarly to the refresh rates predicted to be expected in 2027.
Apple will likely update the iPad Pro in 2028 with improved OLED screens in the same 11 and 13-inch sizes. These displays will deliver better picture quality and enhance energy efficiency, boosting productivity and enriching leisure experiences.
Why OLED Matters
OLED stands for the Organic Light Emitting Diode, primarily used for television screens and boasts of exquisite picture quality as it possesses self-emissive pixels: pitch-black ones and colored ones, at that. They provide enhanced image resolution, increased image contrast, enhanced perceiving angles, and enhanced energy economy. Apple’s switching to OLED technology simply proves its desire to improve display performance not only in iPhones but other existing premium products.
Future Expectations
Apple has not publicly declared these updates but it is evident that there is a laid down schedule for OLED by from the insiders and market researchers. While this tech giant prepares these innovative changes, tech lovers will be expecting colorful and innovative designing, particularly in Apple’s MacBook and iPad lines.
