The MediaTek Dimensity 6400 has rolled out as a new generation of the Dimensity 6300. The new chipset carries forward the fundamental architecture of the original but features minor boosts in performance. Based on TSMC’s 6nm process, it introduces power efficiency, improved connectivity, and good camera support into affordable 5G smartphones.
Improved Performance with 6nm Architecture
Dimensity 6400 was designed by MediaTek using an octa-core CPU. It has two ARM Cortex-A76 cores at 2.5GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0GHz. They have balanced the performance and efficiency of these cores to provide smooth multitasking and stable power delivery. With respect to Dimensity 6300, whose performance cores were at 2.4GHz, the new chip is marginally improved on speed.
Furthermore, MediaTek supported the Dimensity 6400 with the ARM Mali-G57 MC2 GPU. This processor boosts gaming and multimedia capabilities with efficient graphics performance. LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.2 storage support are present within the chipset for optimized app launches and data transferring speeds.
Display and Camera Capabilities
Dimensity 6400 chipset allows phones to have good-quality screens and high-caliber camera systems. It supports Full-HD+ (1080×2520 pixels) AMOLED screens with a 120Hz refresh rate, providing silky-smooth animation and snappy scrolling.

In the camera division, the chipset supports up to a 108-megapixel main sensor. MediaTek has implemented advanced image processing technologies to enhance dynamic range, low-light photography, and computational photography. These improvements enable affordable smartphones to provide competitive camera features.
5G Connectivity and Network Features
The Dimensity 6400 features a 3GPP Release-16 compliant 5G modem. It offers top download speeds of 3.3Gbps, providing quick data transfers and reliable connections. The chipset supports multiple network modes, including:
- 5G SA (Standalone) and NSA (Non-Standalone)
- 4G LTE, 3G, and 2G networks
- Dual SIM 5G standby for quick network switching
In addition, the chipset features Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2, and dual-band GPS support, further improving wireless connectivity and navigation precision.
Comparing Dimensity 6400 to Its Predecessors
MediaTek has tended to increment in small steps its Dimensity 6000 lineup. The Dimensity 6400 is virtually a tuned iteration of the Dimensity 6300, and the Dimensity 6300 itself was simply a rebadged Dimensity 6100+. The chief differences between the three chipsets are clock speeds:
- Dimensity 6100+: Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz
- Dimensity 6300: Cortex-A76 cores at 2.4GHz
- Dimensity 6400: Cortex-A76 cores at 2.5GHz
Despite these step-by-step enhancements, the fundamental design and GPU haven’t changed. The Dimensity 6400 still focuses on affordable 5G smartphones with well-balanced performance without major reworks.
Upcoming Smartphones with the Dimensity 6400
The Realme P3x 5G will be the first smartphone in India to have the Dimensity 6400. Going on sale on February 18, the phone will have a 6,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging. It also has an IP68+IP69 rating, which provides protection against water and dust.
Other brands of smartphones are likely to use this chipset in future budget 5G devices. As cost-effective and with 5G connectivity, the Dimensity 6400 is bound to drive budget smartphones in 2025.
Final Thoughts
The MediaTek Dimensity 6400 is the company’s tradition of incremental upgrades in its 6nm chipset series. It does not bring revolutionary changes but enhances the performance, connectivity, and efficiency of affordable 5G smartphones. With high-refresh-rate display support, 108-megapixel camera support, and quick 5G speeds, it is still a good option for budget buyers looking for a good mobile experience.
