BYD Sealion 7 Electric SUV

BYD launched the Sealion 7 Electric SUV in India, targeting its fourth electric car in the nation. Earlier, the brand launched the e6 (which was rebranded as eMAX7), Atto 3, and Seal. The Sealion 7 was launched in India at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 prior to its official release. The SUV is now on sale and is available in two trims: Premium and Performance. The Premium model is priced at ₹48.90 lakh, while the Performance model retails at ₹54.90 lakh. BYD has already received 1,000 bookings for the Sealion 7, with deliveries commencing in mid-March 2025.

A Sporty and Streamlined Exterior

The Sealion 7 sports a bold appearance that is typical of BYD’s styling language. Its front end has sharp LED headlamps with the daytime running lights (DRLs) projecting towards the lower bumper. Its chiseled profile has a prominent shoulder line, bulging wheel arches, and a sloping roofline reminiscent of a coupe. A small boot lid under the rear windshield further adds to the SUV’s streamlined look. The rear section houses a sleek full-width LED tail lamp and a sporty rear diffuser, giving the vehicle a bold stance on the road.

A High-Tech and Spacious Interior

There’s a sleek, feature-rich interior within the Sealion 7. The showpiece of the dashboard is the 15.6-inch, rotating touchscreen infotainment, supplemented by the 10.25-inch entirely digital instrument gauge. The vents for the air conditioning are housed below the screen of the infotainment for a clean look and unencumbered format.

BYD has loaded the Sealion 7 with some high-end features. The driver’s seat gets an eight-way power adjustment and four-way lumbar support. The passenger seat gets a six-way power adjustment. Some other important features are dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, panoramic glass roof, head-up display (HUD), and wireless phone charger. The SUV also gets a 12-speaker premium audio system and ventilated front seats.

Advanced Safety and ADAS Features

Safety continues to be of utmost importance in the Sealion 7, with a wide range of driver assistance systems. The Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features adaptive cruise control, forward and rear collision warnings, lane departure warnings, and front and rear cross-traffic alerts with automatic braking. These features help provide a safer driving experience with fewer chances of accidents.

Performance and Powertrain Choices

The BYD Sealion 7 comes with two powertrain choices, both driven by an 82.5 kWh battery pack. The single-motor Premium trim produces 308 bhp, which allows a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration of only 6.7 seconds. The dual-motor Performance trim produces a combined output of 523 bhp, taking it to 100 km/h in a mere 4.5 seconds.

Battery range varies across models. The single-motor variant has a whopping 587 km on full charge, while the dual-motor Performance variant has a range of 542 km. These numbers make the Sealion 7 a serious player in the premium electric SUV market.

Market Positioning and Competitors

In India, the Sealion 7 goes head-to-head against luxury electric SUVs like the BMW iX1 long-wheelbase, launched recently at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. The iX1 offers German engineering and brand name, whereas BYD has a feature-loaded package with competitive range and performance. With the growing demand for premium electric vehicles, the Sealion 7 emerges as an attractive choice for Indian consumers.

Conclusion

The BYD Sealion 7 launch is a testament to the brand’s dedication to India’s expanding EV segment. With its sleek design, advanced technology, strong safety features, and potent performance, the Sealion 7 is a premium electric SUV. As deliveries begin in mid-March, it will be interesting to observe how this new product influences the landscape of electric mobility in India.
